Akhtar Furniture Academy (AFA) and SkillFUL jointly organized an orientation programme on Workplace Based Training for the Furniture Sector on July 14, 2012.

The objective of the orientation was to discuss the concept and importance of Workplace Based Training (WBT); to orient the workshop owners on WBT modalities and to define the roles and responsibilities of AFA and concerned workshops.

Mr. K.M. Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of AFA and Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owner’s Association (BEIOA), representatives from 17 furniture industries and workshops, and SkillFUL team members were present at the orientation. The participants requested to build the capacity of instructors who will facilitate the WBT. They suggested inviting external and experienced subject matter experts in this regard. The workshop owners appreciated AFA and SkillFUL’s initiative to develop the skills of workshop workers.

Mr. Buddika Liyanage, Srilankan experts on lacquer polishing, delivered a brief presentation on Lacquer polishing prospect in Bangladesh and in the global market.
