SkillFUL project organized a workshop on Competency Based Training Learning Materials Development on Light Engineering and Furniture Sector from 30 May – 14 June 2012 in Summer Palace Hotel, Dhaka. The objective of the workshop was to identify skill gaps of Upholster Worker, Lacquer Polisher, Welder, Lathe Operator, and to develop Workplace Based Training Learning Materials (Skills Upgrading) for the respective trades. 5 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs- 2 female and 3 male) from Upholstery and Lacquer Polishing occupation and 4 (SMEs) from Welding & Lathe Operating participated in the training to provide expertise in the related subject.

The total program was facilitated by Mr. Suresh Mahto, international consultant, Nepal and 4 Competency Based Training Learning Materials on Upholster Worker, Lacquer Polisher, Lathe Operator and Welder was developed during the workshop. The learning materials will be implemented to upgrade the skills of workers involved in the related occupations and contribute to increase the productivity and income of workers in the respective industries.

A ceremony of appreciations was held where Mr. Devi Prasad Dahal, Project Manager-SkillFUL, Mr. K. M. Akhtaruzzaman, Managing Director, Akhtar Furniture Academy and Mr. Manfred Egger, Technical Consultant-SkillFUL appreciated the contribution of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the workshop and addressed the need of skills development training.
